This Art Exhibition Will Make You Proud to Call Tulsa Home – See It This Weekend
Oh, Tulsa is a biennial by Living Arts that celebrates visual, performance, literary, sound, video, and installation art for the Tulsa community. Eligible work includes Tulsa residents, artists who have lived in Tulsa, and artwork dealing with Tulsa's past/present/future. Check it out at Living Arts of Tulsa next Saturday, August 10th!
This year, the exhibition will be juried by Tulsa-born curator and artist, Julie Niemi. Julie is an independent curator, writer, and editor. Through research, design, writing, and exhibition-making, Julie creates projects that are material ruminations on underrepresented, or minor histories, in the United States that have the potential to bring forth new proposals for community-building and conversation.
Previously, Julie was an Assistant Curator at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, where she co-curated The Autotopographers (2019). Currently, she co-runs Diagram Press out of Milwaukee, WI and is the recipient of a grant from Foundation for Arts Initiatives for her ongoing research on Tolstoy College, an anarchist educational community active at the University at Buffalo in the 1970s and '80s. In 2017, she received an M.A. from the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College.
Since 1969, Living Arts of Tulsa has been steadfast in its mission of "presenting and developing contemporary art forms in Tulsa." Living Arts’ focus is on newly evolving ideas and concepts, in the creation of art forms, and exploring the relationship of art to other disciplines and fields of knowledge. Through the presentation of creative workshops, performances, exhibitions, films/videos, demonstrations of current art, lectures, related educational activities, and research, Living Arts share its interests with the community.
